About Ekaterina Mortensen

Ekaterina Mortensen Ekaterina (Katya) Mortensen - born and educated in Leningrad (now St Petersburg), USSR and migrated to Australia in 2000. Her family was one that venerated fine art, music and literature.

From childhood she had a strong interest and a proven ability in art as revealed by her high achievements in art at school and draftsmanship at university. Despite these skills and interests her academic life was directed to computer science. She worked in different areas of computer applications but found most interest in connection of computers and art in graphic design. Her interest and knowledge developed further when she was employed as a graphic designer in the State Russian Museum’s publishing department, “Palace Editions” producing high quality art books.

When Ekaterina migrated to Australia in 2000, she concentrated on Australian landscapes in watercolour, then changed to an emphasis in acrylics and more recently to oils with a wide variety of subjects throughout these years.
Ekaterina\'s exhibitions display her versatility and have included flowers, birds, various animals and insects, urban and rural landscapes, and portraits. She has held several solo exhibitions in Goulburn and the Illawarra, a joint exhibition at the TAP Gallery Sydney, participated in group exhibitions in Goulburn, Austinmer, Gosford and Queanbeyan and in the TAP Gallery’s Nude 3 Exhibition and Real Refuses. Ekaterina regularly enters the Archibald and other important competitions, exhibits annually in the Sydney Easter Show, the Canberra Show and the Camberwell and has sold works at those venues. Her works are hung in various Australian states, USA, England and Russia.

Katya was published in The Artists Palette magazine No. 40 with insight and demonstration articles.

Apart from her stock of works, Ekaterina paints by commission - portraits, pets, flowers or any subject. Please contact her through her website for any particular requests. www.katyasart.id.au
